Research projects are granted funding for one year at a time but have a planning framework for the entire project period. Researchers submit applications for continued funding annually, together with progress reports.

All decisions on which research projects are to be granted funding are made in Planning Committees for the respective programmes. These Planning Committees consist of farmers, researchers and experts from the agricultural industry. As a result, each Committee has specific expertise within its sector.

In addition to their duty to assess all new applications, the Planning Committees also monitor the progress of projects during their entire project period and review all final reports that are submitted to them.
