In this one-year project we plan to test the effect of an existing equipment, based on electrostatics, on both annual and perennial weeds. The aim is to evaluate the potential for using the equipment in commercial agricultural and horticultural production. Results will be used as a base for development of field machinery in a follow-up project together with JTI.
We expect the project to yield answers to the following questions:
• Which dose (voltage and time) is the most effective and resource effecient, respectively, to kill annual weeds of different development stages?
• Which dose (voltage and time) is the most effective and resource effecient, respectively, to kill perennial weeds? • What effect does the method have on roots or rhizomes of perennial weeds, and how does it affect the regrowth? • What importance does the soil moisture have on the effect?
• What is the potential for developing the equipment for use in commercial agriculture and horticulture?
