The aim of this project is to optimize management decisions in large dairy herds by integrating systematic on-farm experimentation into advanced dairy herd management systems, i.e. an evolutionary management system. Systematic experimentation is a way to detect and estimate the effects of changing input factors. Effects of such within-herd experiments can be evaluated with minimal costs because larger herds often have access to automatic or semi-automatic data recordings. We will implement the concepts of Evolutionary Operations (EVOP) known from the manufacturing industry. EVOP implies to make systematic small changes in production factors and procedures and thereby identify a more efficient production. Generic concepts developed in Denmark, within a common Nordic project, will be developed into a specific model for the management of udder health. The application of EVOP for udder health management will be evaluated, quantitatively and qualitatively, in a few Swedish commercial herds.

Mastitis (udder inflammation) is the most costly disease among dairy cows. Swedish studies show that first parity cows often have udder infections and mastitis at calving, which may have considerable negative effects on their milk production and longevity, but that the prevalence varies among …

The aim of this project is to take different actors perspectives in describing the process through which Yara N-sensor went from a decision support system used by a few early adopters to a well-known sensor used by extension services and authorities as a base for fertilisation recommendations …

This project investigates the impact of infections with bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) and bovine corona virus (BCV) in dairy herds on overall disease burden in the herd, usage of antibiotics, prevalence of antibiotic resistances and herd productivity. The aim is to document the …

The long-term goal is to develop oat with new and unique properties that can be used as whole grain or fractionated for use in the food industry. The focus here will be on the pre-breeding and early variety development stages. The final variety will be developed in collaboration with oat breeders. …

HYPOTHESIS:
Cows with higher breeding value for forage intake capacity (FIC) are more profitable in terms of milk income minus feed cost than those with lower such FIC value. The hypothesis will be tested both in experimental research and demonstrated in commercial herds.
Dairy cows consume large …

Clubroot disease is a serious threat to OSR production in Sweden and genetic resistance is the most important factor in a cropping strategy. The aim is to develop a concept for integrated production of winter OSR supported by DNA technology. Infestation levels and yield of resistant and susceptible …

The project aims to develop a decision support tool to aid farmers when investing in precision agriculture technology. The project will develop a model to assess the profitability of investments in precision agriculture technology. Within the project data from Swedish and international field trials …

The purpose of the project is to measure pressure distribution of cattle claws on solid and slatted floors with varying softness and slot openings. The aim is to produce recommendations for the design of floors for cattle that better meet animal welfare requirements. Floor tests will be made using …

Flea beetles are serious insect pests in spring oilseed rape. After neonicotinoid seed treatments were restricted, no effective chemical control methods are currently available for flea beetle control. Crop protection has therefore become a serious limiting factor for growing the crop. In an …

During the last decade, neonatal porcine diarrhoea (NPD) has become an increased problem in Swedish herds. Clostridium (C.) perfringens type A (CpA) and C. difficile (Cd) have been highlighted as causes of NPD but their importance has also been questioned. We have previously demonstrated that CpA …
