In this project, we want to take advantage of the farmers' own experiences, knowledge and visions, and combine them with the best available information about local specific topographic, hydrological, pedologic and agronomic conditions as well as with results from high-resolution modelling to develop farm-specific measures to reduce impacts on aquatic environment. Thus, we want to shape abatement programs based on local conditions, equip farmers with information, data, knowledge and self-confidence to adapt counter-measures to provide maximum effect both for the environment and farms profitability. Pilot areas that we will focus on are 16 farms included in “Odling i Balans” (OIB) project. We believe that this approach is completely in line with The Swedish Farmers' Foundation for Agricultural Research challenge 'Best Practice' in general, and especially with the point about the further development of pilot farms that combines production, research and demonstration of new technologies.

A primary reason for unhealthy legs and claws are unsuitable floor properties in dairy houses,
which may result in slippery floors and slip injuries to cows and mastitis.
The hygiene of a floor surface and floor properties affect the cow claw/floor interaction and gait.
The aim is to determine an …

The purpose of the project is to measure pressure distribution of cattle claws on solid and slatted floors with varying softness and slot openings. The aim is to produce recommendations for the design of floors for cattle that better meet animal welfare requirements. Floor tests will be made using …

In Sweden, thousands of hectares of agricultural land are not being actively used for agricultural production. Some
reasons are small and irregular-shaped fields, low soil fertility, distant fields, etc. These so-called marginal fields are
often non-profitable and they may be abandoned in the …

Mineral nutrients applied as seed dressing is an unexplored potential in Swedish crop production. Autumn and spring are often unfavorable for germination with cold and wet climate, especially in central Sweden. Under such climate conditions, seed dressing with mineral nutrients may improve …

The basis for sustainable dairy production is set in the newborn heifer calf. Earlier research has demonstrated that weight gain and health during early life influence the adult calf's production capacity, partly an effect of nutrition. Probably the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) …

Global livestock production must be intensified to meet the demand from a growing human population. However, this must not be at the expense of reduced animal health and deteriorated animal welfare. Infection with parasitic worms of ruminants is a major constraint on an efficient pasture-based …
