This project develops a system to deliver feedback from horse welfare assessments to owners. The assessment protocol includes animal- and resource based measures covering aspects of health, housing, behaviour and management regimes. The feedbacksystem will present transparent and accessible information. It will include results of measures, background information and advice on welfare. The feedbacktype will be based on requests from the sector, ensuring a usable end-product. The system will be used on a small scale to present results to horse owners. Half will receive outcomes of the assessments without explanation or advice, the other half will receive results, background information, possible improvement strategies and benchmark information. Feedback types will be assessed and compared. By taking a holistic approach including assessment and knowledge based advice, the feedback cycle allows owners to take informed decisions regarding that will contribute to improve horse welfare.
