Genomic selection is revolutionizing animal breeding, since selection is based on the joint genetic merit of all SNP alleles across the genome. Lack of accurate and frequent data, however, forms the most important barrier to realize the full potential of genomic selection. There is on the other hand an enormous unexploited potential to utilize measurements taken by voluntary milking systems in breeding decisions. The overall aim is to investigate how data collected by voluntary milking systems can be used for genome-wide prediction of breeding values for udder conformation, using teat coordinates registered by voluntary milk systems and genotype data for cows. Results will be applicable to other on-farm automatic recording devices, for example used for heat detection and measuring
methane emissions, and as such contribute to genetic improvement in animal welfare and health, greenhouse gas emissions and production, amongst others.

Innovative outdoor poultry production farms are faced with new challenges. Therefore we intend to: 1) Develop user-friendly guidelines for risk assessment of nutrient load and losses in outdoor systems 2) Identify possible improvements and technical solutions for reducing risk of phosphorus losses …

Equine influenza is one of the most important infectious diseases in horses and outbreaks cause considerable economical losses for the horse industry. Prophylactic vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent clinical disease and to limit the spread of infection. It is therefore imperative …

The aim of the proposed project is to examine whether recovery after competition in horses is affected by housing system. Our hypothesis is that horses kept in a housing system where they can move freely in groups recover faster than horses kept in box stalls. We performed such a study in 2015 and, …

Resistance against antiparasitic drugs is now an increasing problem. Despite a lot of effortd put on preventive measures, such as egg counting and selective treatments, there is still a need for alternative and sustainable methods that do not result in rapid development of drug resistance. The …
