The proposed project is a completion of a SLF funded project on developing strategies for detection of salmonella, prevention of salmonella infection and increased cost-effectiveness of salmonella eradication, in Swedish dairy herds. The aim is to decrease the prevalence of salmonella in Swedish dairy herds, for the benefit of the hygienic quality of milk, calf health, environmental and public health. The project is a PhD project in three parts: 1. Further development of testing strategies for salmonella in Swedish dairy herds, 2. Identification of factors increasing the risk of salmonella infection in Swedish dairy herds and 3. Evaluation of costs for salmonella eradication in Swedish dairy herds. Funding is requested for completion of the project so that the results will be useful for farmers and veterinary authorities. The project will be finalised in 2016.
