This project is intended to demonstrate a cost effective concept for small-scale production and utilization of biomethane as vehicle fuel and extraction of concentrated ammonium nitrogen fertilizer. The system is composed of standard components that are commonly used in farm scale biogas production. On-farm production of biomethane and nitrogen fertilizer enables growth within the agricultural sector without competing with primary food production.
The concept has been jointly developed by JTI and SLU within earlier projects financed by SLF, Swedish Board of Agriculture, Swedish Energy Authority and the ERA-NET program. By involving a manufacturer (Ranaverken), an agricultural high school (Naturbruksgymnasiet Sötåsen) and an extension service organization (HS) we lay the groundwork for broader implementation of the demonstrated concept. JTI, SLU and Sötåsen have a well-developed cooperation, which is an important foundation for successful execution of a complex project such as this one
