Mineral nutrients applied as seed dressing is an unexplored potential in Swedish crop production. Autumn and spring are often unfavorable for germination with cold and wet climate, especially in central Sweden. Under such climate conditions, seed dressing with mineral nutrients may improve germination and growth of shoot and root significantly. Our aim is to develop recommendations for application of mineral nutrients as seed dressing to compensate for a late time of sowing in winter wheat and reduce the damage of flea beetles in oil seed rape by enhanced emergence and growth. In a pre-investigation, existing seed dressing products with mineral nutrients are examined under controlled conditions. Three products are then selected for further investigations in field trials. Effects of seed dressing on emergence, growth and harvest are determined. Benefits for farmers are a safe cultivation with an extended sowing window, higher profit and an increased capacity in cultivation management.
