Riding performance is influenced by the interplay between horse and rider and success is dependent on a good interaction. In an educational context this rider-horse dyad is complemented with a riding instructor/trainer. The study aims to describe and analyse the communication between rider and horse, and will be based on video recordings and interviews with riding instructors/trainers and riders. The overall aim is to contribute to an improved understanding of the complex didactic process, and will improve the riding education and education of riding instructors, and lead to improved performance and well-being for horse and human. The study will contribute to the development of didactics in equestrian sport, training of riding instructors and integration of humanities and social equine research. The project facilitates continuous professionalization of riding instructors/trainers which improves the quality of riding schools, a prerequisite for sustainable economic development.
