Climate projections for Sweden indicate higher temperatures during summer and larger variability in precipitation between years. This poses enormous challenges for Swedish agriculture. The main aim of this project is to investigate relationships between soil management, soil quality and crop yield. We will gather 60-70 farmers in Västergötland and Östergötland and i) perform quantitative surveys and interviews to identify perceived risks, adaption measures and knowledge gaps for securing stable crop production in a changing climate, and ii) measure soil quality on 60-70 farm fields and collect long-term data on soil management, yield and weather to quantify relationships between soil management, soil quality, crop productivity and yield stability. Our hypothesis is that good soil quality improves yield stability, and that a more diverse (e.g. diverse crop rotation) and less intense (e.g. low tillage intensity) soil management improves soil quality.

The overall aim of this project is to improve equine health and welfare by identifying causative mutations for inherited diseases to aid informed breeding of healthy horses. We will use a comparative genomics approach, combining whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and bioinformatics with state-of-the-art …

Resistance to anthelmintic drugs is a threat to equine welfare. Like antibiotics, is restrictive use of anthelmintics necessary to retain their effectivity. Thus, targeted selective treatment, based on individual deworming, was introduced a decade ago. However, we have shown that the prevalence of, …

The goal of the applied project is to shed light on overlooked aspects of the complex subject of horse welfare.
Because of the specific position stall owners have, they are especially suitable to contribute to our knowledge about
the possibilities and limitations that set the conditions for …

The aim of the project is to develop tools which can be used for individually adapted lactation lengths based on the biological conditions of the cow. Today a one year calving interval and a short lactation period, is recommended. The recommendations are based on 30 years old information and do not …

Consumer trends are focused on minimal processing of milk. The new process technologies for heat treatment used in the dairy industry today probably have smaller effects on the nutritional quality and functionality of milk than the older technologies that are the basis for the calculations of …

Soil compaction is a threat to soil ecosystem services and negatively affects crop productivity, causing huge costs to farmers and society. The main aim of the project is to raise awareness of soil compaction. We will i) refine the freely accessible soil compaction decision support tool …

Improved feed efficiency (FE) is a key parameter for increased sustainability in modern diary production. The project aims to increase the efficiency of converting feed into milk and reducing the environmental impact of dairy production. In order for farmers and breeding companies to include FE as …
