Innovative outdoor poultry production farms are faced with new challenges. Therefore we intend to: 1) Develop user-friendly guidelines for risk assessment of nutrient load and losses in outdoor systems 2) Identify possible improvements and technical solutions for reducing risk of phosphorus losses from paddocks and 3) Evaluate 2 materials for paddocks with respect to phosphorus sorption in relation to investment costs and comfort. These needs were identified by advisors who assembled people from the sector, authority and research in this project. There is a knowledge gap, which constitutes an administrative bottleneck for development of outdoor production systems which are currently highly demanded by consumers and restaurant industry. Methods used are inventory of nutrient flows and risks on 15 farms, detailed spatial analysis of animal distribution on 2 farms, workshops for identifying ideas and a field study of selected paddock materials with 3 replicates at Lövsta research station.

Cereal production is limited by many different factors. Leaf diseases are often well known, while diseases on roots are more difficult to identify. Root diseases are often caused by oomycetes, fungus-like microorganisms that live for years in soil and on old root debris, parasitizing the roots of …

A sustainable use of phosphorus fertilizers has engaged a large number of researchers, especially how to measure
the soil content of available phosphorus. However, the development of results to useful methods for agriculture has
not been a priority. The recommendations are based on extraction with …

The carbon footprint for ruminants is high compared to other food products of animal origin but grazing animals such
as beef and lamb have other positive effects on the environment such as increased biodiversity and carbon
sequestration. Beef- and lamb producers need clear guidelines on how to …

Young horses can develop cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy and ataxia, known as "wobbler syndrome" and associated with loss of breeding value, reduced athletic potential and euthanasia. Some wobblers have osteochondrosis of their vertebral facet joints, but it is now known how this relates to …
