All horses grazing freely are at risk of parasitic diseases. Due to a growing problem with drug resistance in parasites, there is a need to improve the diagnostic methods. One important problem with today's situation is that one diagnostic procedure costs significantly more than one treatment, both in terms of money and in working hours. Thus, there are strong driving forces to treat "just in case" rather than giving treatment only in cases where it is strictly motivated.
We therefore propose a diagnostic system based on microfluidic separation of fecal samples. The samples are treated in different steps so that the eggs of interest can be sorted and then analyzed using primarily cellular phone-based microscopy which is very easy to use for the horse owner, but also using impedance spectroscopy, and DNA analysis.
We expect our microfluidic system for the diagnosis of fecal samples is faster, easier to use, more sensitive, more accurate and less expensive than today's systems.

Icelandic horses are increasingly popular in Sweden and Norway. Their strength lies in their unique gaits, however, in lame horses this trait becomes a weakness. Evaluating not only lameness but also the leg of origin for lameness in any gait other than trot is exceptionally challenging. Today, we …

Slippery floors results in falls and injuries which can be fatal. Moreover, on dairy farms slippery floors impede oestrus behaviour and ease of heat detection and as result cause economical losses due to impaired fertility. Grooving is the most common way to treat concrete floors to reduce …

A primary reason for unhealthy legs and claws are unsuitable floor properties in dairy houses,
which may result in slippery floors and slip injuries to cows and mastitis.
The hygiene of a floor surface and floor properties affect the cow claw/floor interaction and gait.
The aim is to determine an …
