Swedish farmers face increasing societal expectations to contribute to climate change mitigation and need to find economically viable ways to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Knowledge on the planning- and other control tools for ensuring farm profitability under transition to lower climate impacts is particularly needed. This project will study the practices of designing and using management control tools to plan and follow up on emission reduction in tandem with economic planning. Through action research and mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, with dairy farmers and advisors we plan to a) design targets for farm-level GHG emission reduction, b) identify management control practices that help farmers steer towards these targets alongside economic considerations during operational and strategic decisions, and c) explore how advisory services can address potential knowledge gaps and farmers needs of management controls to align climate and economic objectives.
Svenska mjölkbönder står inför en ökad samhällelig förväntan att bidra till att minska klimatförändringarna och behöver därför hitta ekonomiskt hållbara sätt att minska växthusgasutsläppen. Kunskap om planerings- och andra styrverktyg för att säkerställa lantbrukets lönsamhet under övergången till lägre klimatpåverkan behöver särskild uppmärksamhet. Detta projekt kommer att studera hur och på vilket sätt styrverktyg kan användas för att planera och följa upp utsläppsminskningar i takt med den ekonomiska planeringen. Genom aktionsforskning, med kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder, planerar vi att med mjölkbönder och rådgivare a) utforma mål för minskning av växthusgasutsläpp på gårdsnivå, b) hitta kontrollverktyg som hjälper mjölkbönder att styra mot dessa mål i samband med ekonomiska övervägningar vid operativa och strategiska beslut, samt c) utforska hur rådgivningen kan täcka eventuella kunskapsluckor och lantbrukarnas behov av styrverktyg för att balansera klimat- och ekonomimål.
