Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat. The WHO global action plan on AMR mentions LA-MRSA (Livestock-associated Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) that is prevalent in pigs in many countries. The public health threat is generally low but for affected individuals it is a serious health risk and the societal costs may be high.
This project will provide a much-needed basis for LA-MRSA control in Swedish pig production. Due to a lack of strategy for positive findings, no surveillance is currently conducted. The project uses theoretical models to simulate the spread of LA-MRSA, and different control measures are assessed for cost-efficiency.
In this PhD project, the basic model is built and simulation of spread and control comes next. Collaboration with researchers in Denmark and Norway uses their experiences and data. Cooperation with Swedish farmers' organisations and veterinary authorities ensures that the results are directly applicable for the end-users.

Water has a central role for all processes in and on the ground. During dry years and inferior stands during springtime, irrigation is vital for optimizing grain production. Knowledge about water-maintenance and water-economy are vital to develop long-term sustainable solutions for culture systems. …

Weed competes with the crop for light, water and nutrients. Competition for resources can cause crop losses which in some cases can be significant, as well as provide a crop of poorer quality. It is therefore important to develop strategies that keep weeds at a reasonable level. Not keeping the …

In Sweden, thousands of hectares of agricultural land are not being actively used for agricultural production. Some
reasons are small and irregular-shaped fields, low soil fertility, distant fields, etc. These so-called marginal fields are
often non-profitable and they may be abandoned in the …

Swedish milk needs to be more internationally competitive. To achieve this objective costs related to production need to decrease at the same time as customer perceived values are strengthened and more clearly communicated. Lowering the incidence of mastitis reduces the production cost for farmers. …
