Consumers appreciate onions in all kinds of cooking. Onions can be grown in Sweden with good results. Onions can be stored for a long period. There is a potential to increase the self-sufficiency in onions. To achieve this, a better knowledge of long-term-storage potential indicator factors that are easy for the grower to analyse at the time of harvest is needed. Through this project, the growers will get access to easy-to-use analysis tools based on scientific results. Soil analyses, plant analyses and content of sugars and bioactive compounds will be analysed in laboratories. Easy-to-use methods for analysis of total sugars, glucose, calcium, nitrate, pH and hardness will be used in parallel and will be correlated with the laboratory results and weather data. When the growers already at the point of harvest can decide which onions to sell immediately and which to store for longer time, the quality out of the storage will be improved. The result is reduced waste and better economy.

The ability of milk to coagulate is crucial for cheese production. We have previously shown high occurrence of non-coagulating milk from Swedish Red Dairy cattle and identified milk proteins as potential markers for this undesirable trait. In this project we will increase the understanding of the …

The carbon footprint for ruminants is high compared to other food products of animal origin but grazing animals such
as beef and lamb have other positive effects on the environment such as increased biodiversity and carbon
sequestration. Beef- and lamb producers need clear guidelines on how to …

The project aims to lay the foundation for genomic selection in Swedish beef cattle populations. Genomic selection has revolutionized animal breeding and much increased genetic progress in e.g. dairy cattle. Improved animal breeding increases production efficiency and genomic selection enables …

The goal is models for translating satellite data from the time of supplementary fertilisation directly to nitrogen (N) recommendation maps. The crops are winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and malting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). A new multispectral camera for drones, with nine bands of the same …

Knowledge of disease development in wheat is a prerequisite for good advice on economically and environmentally
adapted control strategies. This project is based on knowledge from a previous SLF project about molecular detection
and spore traps, which showed that the different spore traps catch …

The purpose of this project is to define the amount of slaked lime needed for a given clay soil. We hypothesise that the amount of slaked lime needed for minimal phophorus loss is dependent on the clay content of the soil. The study will be conducted in a field with a drainage system and measuring …
