The use of fungicides in potatoes is in many cases unnecessarily large in relation to the risk of infestation of late
blight and tuber blight. With increased and better knowledge of potato late blight and tuber blight, the average control
intensity can probably be reduced by 25–50%. With the improvement of the reliability of existing forecast and warning
models / decision support systems (DSS), the routine chemical control carried out against potato late blight and tuber
blight can be replaced, in both susceptible and less susceptible varieties. We can achieve this improvement through
processing, in-depth analysis and evaluation of unique data from several decades of field trials. The project is based
on needs-driven research (TRL 3 – 4), with the intention of developing an economically and environmentally
sustainable potato cropping. Through these improvements, the application, use and reliability of forecasting and
warning models / DSS will increase.

Even if Sweden is historically regarded as a water-affluent country, lately sustainable water use and water circularity have become topics of high concern. Irrigation is dependent on high quality water resources, and the need for accessible water resources becomes stronger under exceptionally dry …

An improved strategy for agricultural drainage is important for both economic and environmental reasons. There are indications on environmental benefits of a good drainage but lack of studies that directly shows this. The aim of the project is to develop a basis for design recommendations for new …

The use of safely reclaimed water for agriculture irrigation is a promising solution to address water shortages, especially on Gotland. One primary concern is the introduction of organic micropollutants (OMPs), such as pharmaceuticals and other chemicals, into the agricultural ecosystem and food …

Swedish biogas production is crucial to reach environmental and climate targets and manure represents a great potential, corresponding to ca 2,7 Twh. However, the production from manure-based facilities currently only reaches around ca 64 GWh. Due to the character of manure it is difficult to reach …

We will evaluate the adaption of a concept for nitrogen extraction from waste streams, developed by EasyMining, applied to biogas digestate to produce an ammonium sulfate fertilizer and dilution water. The concept can contribute to increased production of biogas via extended digestion of …

Poultry manure is commonly used as fertilizer for crop production, however, high nutrient contents and unbalanced nutrient ratios limit application rates and require larger land areas for spreading, driving up manure handling costs. Techniques for incineration and pyrolysis of biomass are …

Cereal cyst nematodes (CNN) are considered as major pests in cereals causing considerable yield losses, especially in monoculture systems. The status of CCNs in Sweden is not fully elucidated, but recent surveys conducted in Västra Götaland county showed wide occurrence, specially of Heterodera …

Cultivation of legumes will increase due to several factors. Among these are extraction of plant-based proteins for human consumption, a demand for increased self-sufficiency of vegetable proteins within the country, reduced costs for fertilisers by N-fixation in the legumes, and use of legumes as …
