Both footrot and contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD) can cause extensive damage to the feet of affected sheep, and cause both suffering and financial losses. The aim of the proposed one-year project is to gain new knowledge about these two infectious feet diseases and their respective disease causing agents, Dichelobacter nodosus and Treponema species. This is knowledge which is lacking today and which is crucial in order to be able to develop effective control strategies for the two diseases in the future. An international workshop is planned at the end of the project where we plan to present the obtained data to the reference group and to our international collaborators to put together a road map for national control strategies. In the long term, the project contributes to healthier sheep without footrot and CODD, which promotes profitability of the production and increases animal welfare.
