Both footrot and contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD) can cause extensive damage to the feet of affected sheep, and cause both suffering and financial losses. The aim of the proposed one-year project is to gain new knowledge about these two infectious feet diseases and their respective disease causing agents, Dichelobacter nodosus and Treponema species. This is knowledge which is lacking today and which is crucial in order to be able to develop effective control strategies for the two diseases in the future. An international workshop is planned at the end of the project where we plan to present the obtained data to the reference group and to our international collaborators to put together a road map for national control strategies. In the long term, the project contributes to healthier sheep without footrot and CODD, which promotes profitability of the production and increases animal welfare.

We are currently evaluating the effectiveness of grass buffer strips (GBS-eff) for nutrient retention. Today, there are no obligations to cut or remove the grass on GBS which may lead to phosphorus (P) saturation. In the on-going field experiments we are testing if removal (harvesting) the grass …

Lime is known to have many positive effects, some of which can be unexpected. The proposed study will measure the effects of carbonate lime (CaCO3) and mixed lime (CaCO3 and Ca(OH)2) on all crops in a rotation (cereal, oilseed rape, canning peas, potatoes). The combined effects of liming on soil …

In an ongoing project, funded by SLF, examines the effect of sowing time and seed rate on yield. Two field trials were established in autumn 2014 respectively 2015 in Skåne and Östergötland. Now we are looking for funding to expand the project with a third trial year. Two years is too short time to …
