A sustainable use of phosphorus fertilizers has engaged a large number of researchers, especially how to measure
the soil content of available phosphorus. However, the development of results to useful methods for agriculture has
not been a priority. The recommendations are based on extraction with ammonium lactate/acetic acid (P-AL), a
method shown that has shown to be inappropriate for soils with a pH>7, and are also neglecting the impact of soil
properties on phosphorus availability. Additionally, the contribution from the subsoil is ignored. In this project, data and
soil samples from long-term soil fertility trials will be used to develop critical values for P-Olsen, making this extraction
a useful alternative to P-AL. We will also investigate the transport of phosphorus to the subsoil, with intention to
identify soils with a high chance of phosphorus accumulation in deeper layers. Finally, the usefulness of including
more soil properties in the recommendations will be assessed.
ytterligare markegenskaper i rådgivningen undersökas.

In Sweden, there is both a great potential and a great need for increased cultivation and processing of plant-based foods from alternative protein crops. The overall aim of the project is therefore to increase the production of Swedish plant proteins for food. The objective is to identify …

Effective communication between driver and horse via rein signals is essential for safety and horse welfare. Good driveability should at best reflect the absence of unnecessary harsh equipment. Yet, many trotters suffer from mouth lesions but associations with equipment, rein tension and motion …

Human athletes that perform strenuous exercise in cold climates have a high prevalence of chronic airway inflammation and airway hyper-reactivity. Cold weather exercise can also cause inflammation in equine airways. The Swedish Animal Welfare Act and the equine sport industry have regulations for …

Racing unshod improves the speed, but not all horses have sufficient hoof quality to run barefoot repeatedly without risking health problems. If measures of the ability to race barefoot based on routinely recorded data can be used as a genetic selection tool, it will improve animal health and …

The work in horse stables is commonly characterised by heavy and monotonous work, a low degree of
mechanisation and often outdated and worn facilities, and studies have shown a high prevalence of musculoskeletal
complaints for employees at riding schools. The objective of this study is to evaluate …

The amount and nutritive content of forages has major impact on equine behaviour, health, and disease. In the Nordic countries, forages for horses consist almost exclusively of grasses, and to a limited extent of legumes. Legumes contain more crude protein than grasses, hence locally produced …

We need to remediate the capacity of agricultural landscapes to retain water, nutrients and sediments to make them
more resilient to the increasing frequency of flooding, drought and pollution expected with the climate change. It can
be done by remediating existing narrow ditches into ditches with …

It is well known that storage of animal manure and digestate causes emissions of methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and ammonia (NH3). A crust on liquid manure acts both as a physical barrier for NH3 and as a biofilter that oxidize CH4 and NH3. However, N2O can be formed in some crusts, and there …

Insulin dysregulation and hyperinsulinemia is a horse welfare problem that also increase the incidence of the severely painful condition laminitis in horses. Today, no pharmacological treatment is available but recent weak evidence suggest that Sodium-glucose cotransporters (SGLT) inhibitors (e.g. …
