Conventional technology is virtually unable to measure complete GHG budgets of drained organic soils, which may provide misleading results. So, global estimates of GHG emissions are based on coarse assumptions that don’t take into account the complexity of agroecosystems. Better data are needed for evidence-based rulings on mitigation. By newly developed Relaxed Eddy Accumulation (REA) systems we will study complete, continuous GHG budgets (H2O, CO2, CH4, N2O, NH3) from 3 pairs of organic agricultural fields with contrasting peat layer depth and cultivation. This will shed new light on the climate impact of cultivated organic soils and the importance of site-specific conditions and management. High time resolution enables process studies to reveal key parameters and mechanisms that control GHG fluxes in the soil-plant-atmosphere system, which will significantly improve simulation models. This will notably improve GHG reporting, climate modeling, and the base for mitigation strategies.

The aim of the project is to develop tools which can be used for individually adapted lactation lengths based on the biological conditions of the cow. Today a one year calving interval and a short lactation period, is recommended. The recommendations are based on 30 years old information and do not …

The role of liming in the crop rotation remains to be thoroughly investigated. Within two recent SLF projects, yield in sugar beet, barley and oil seed rape has been measured in the first rotation. In 2018, beets will be grown for a second time which gives us unique possibilities with the aim to …

Free living nematodes (FLN) and root-knot nematodes (RKN) are increasing problems in root and tuber crops such as potato, sugar beet and carrot. There is a need for effective sanitation techniques and tolerant crops/varieties to keep population levels low in the rotation. Recently, the severe …

Resistance to anthelmintic drugs is a threat to equine welfare. Like antibiotics, is restrictive use of anthelmintics necessary to retain their effectivity. Thus, targeted selective treatment, based on individual deworming, was introduced a decade ago. However, we have shown that the prevalence of, …
