Emotional instability, impulsivity, ongoing self-harm, frequent suicidal crises, interpersonal problems, substance use disorder, cognitive distortions, and severe internal pain are seen in patients with emotionally unstable personality traits. This is a patient group that requires lot of resources over time, with variable effect. We see a great need for interventions that can help reduce individual suffering and socio-economic challenges and prevent fatigue in the help system. Horse-assisted therapy (HAT) is an innovative complementary approach to psychotherapy. HAT is a sought-after and attractive offer, we shall investigate why and how this can contribute in a well-known method-based psychotherapeutic intervention, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for emotionally unstable adolescents. We shall investigate whether this contributes to symptom reduction, increased experience of social support, treatment retention, strengthened socio-relational function and improved quality of life.

It is well known that storage of animal manure and digestate causes emissions of methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and ammonia (NH3). A crust on liquid manure acts both as a physical barrier for NH3 and as a biofilter that oxidize CH4 and NH3. However, N2O can be formed in some crusts, and there …

Insulin dysregulation and hyperinsulinemia is a horse welfare problem that also increase the incidence of the severely painful condition laminitis in horses. Today, no pharmacological treatment is available but recent weak evidence suggest that Sodium-glucose cotransporters (SGLT) inhibitors (e.g. …

It is generally accepted that muscle enzyme activity (CK and AST) levels in plasma may increase in Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds after exercise and racing, indicating muscle damage. However, in one recent study on healthy Standardbred trotters fed a forage only diet muscle enzyme activity levels …

Structure liming on clayey soils (>15% clay) is one of the prioritized measures for mitigation of phosphorous losses to surrounding water. This project increases the knowledge about the effect of structure liming on phosphorous leaching losses on short and long term by investigating the timing and …

Oilseed rape (OSR) is a profitable and important crop in Swedish agriculture, especially winter OSR which is cultivated on approximately 100000 ha each year. According to applicable legislation, manure and digestate must be sanitized in order to prevent disease transmission before they may be merchandised on the open market. Swedish plants currently have the choice between using one of two standard methods (70 °C for 1 h, or 52 °C for 10 h), or carry …

The rollback of insecticides exposes Swedish horticulture to a multitude of pests. Targeted and sustainable innovations are sorely needed. Here we target several pests of fruits, onion, cabbage, beans and salad and aim to develop 1) species-selective lures using a novel olfactomics platform, 2) use …

Fruit tree canker, caused by the fungus Neonectria ditissima, has become a threat for Swedish apple production. No efficient protective measures are available and no complete genetic resistance is known in apple. However, apple genotypes differ in the level of partial resistance which must be fully …
