Poultry manure is commonly used as fertilizer for crop production, however, high nutrient contents and unbalanced nutrient ratios limit application rates and require larger land areas for spreading, driving up manure handling costs. Techniques for incineration and pyrolysis of biomass are developing as processing alternatives that could be applied to poultry manure. Thermochemical conversion of manure could allow farmers to generate their own renewable energy while allowing reuse of phosphorus and potassium through the ash. Some new conversion technologies also allow the potential for capturing and reusing nitrogen normally lost in combustion. This project aims to develop and test a concept for waste-to-energy conversion for poultry manure by investigating technical alternatives that could be viably implemented in Sweden. The concept will be evaluated through system analysis to conclude if thermochemical conversion can improve farm profitability and environmental sustainability.
Fjäderfägödsel används som gödsel i växtodling, men höga näringsinnehåll och obalanserade näringsförhållanden begränsar spridningsmängder och kräver större spridningsarealer, vilket ökar kostnaderna för gödselhantering. Tekniker för termokemisk omvandling av biomassa med förbrännings- och pyrolysteknik utvecklas som skulle kunna tillämpas på fjäderfägödsel. Termokemisk omvandling av fjäderfägödsel kan göra det möjligt för jordbrukare att generera sin egen förnybara energi samtidigt som det tillåter återanvändning av fosfor och kalium genom askan. Vissa nya omvandlingstekniker möjliggör också möjligheten att fånga upp och återanvända kväve som normalt går förlorat vid förbränning. Detta projekt syftar till att utveckla och testa ett koncept för avfall-till-energiomvandling för fjäderfägödsel genom att undersöka tekniska alternativ som kan vara genomförbara implementerade i Sverige.
