The goal with this project is to increase the profitability and production efficiency on Swedish dairy farms by renewing
the genetic evaluation of the breeding value of temperament in dairy cows. We want to investigate if automatic
recordings of behaviour using SLU Gigacow on farm level can improve the breeding value of temperament. The
results will be used by breeding companies to calculate if breeding on temperament can lead to a reduction of labour
costs, a better working environment and minimize the risk of early slaughter, loss of production and injuries on the
animals. To use temperament as a breeding component is important to lower the risk for work related injuries and
improve the working environment on dairy farms. Cows with a temperament tailored to their environment can also
decrease stress levels and improve animal welfare. This project is a collaboration between the Swedish University of
Agricultural Sciences and Växa Sverige.

Decreasing population sizes and risk of accumulation of inbreeding is a challenge for the national Norwegian horse breeds; the Dole, the Fjord and the Nordland/Lyngen. The average breed-specific reduction in covered mares is between 37% and 45%, when comparing the years 2000 to 2009 to the years …

Cereal production is limited by many different factors. Leaf diseases are often well known, while diseases on roots are more difficult to identify. Root diseases are often caused by oomycetes, fungus-like microorganisms that live for years in soil and on old root debris, parasitizing the roots of …

All horses grazing freely are at risk of parasitic diseases. Due to a growing problem with drug resistance in parasites, there is a need to improve the diagnostic methods. One important problem with today's situation is that one diagnostic procedure costs significantly more than one treatment, both …
