During recent decades the area with brushwood has increased in the Swedish rural landscape. A study has shown that the annual harvest of brushwood for fuel purposes could amount to about 6 TWh. Some advantages with the utilization of brushwood as fuel are that the growth areas do not compete with areas for food production, that the harvest will result in a more open landscape favoring biodiversity, and that the net energy yield is high. The purpose of this project is to develop a decision basis for farmers and fuel suppliers for profitable supply of brushwood chips. A dynamic simulation model will be used to simulate the harvest and handling operations at different types of stands (with regard to e.g. plant density and diameter at breast height) in different growth area categories, e.g. field edges, grasslands and road verges. The total costs, from stand to heating plant, will be calculated for different types of machinery by using the performance data from the model.

Young horses can develop cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy and ataxia, known as "wobbler syndrome" and associated with loss of breeding value, reduced athletic potential and euthanasia. Some wobblers have osteochondrosis of their vertebral facet joints, but it is now known how this relates to …

Zinkoxid (ZnO) in feed prevents post weaning diarrhoea (PWD) and mortality in weaned piglets but, for environmental reasons, ZnO will be banned in the EU in 2022 despite that there remain herds that are dependent on the use of ZnO (or antibiotics) at weaning.
By metagenomic analysis (sequencing …

The ability of milk to coagulate is crucial for cheese production. We have previously shown high occurrence of non-coagulating milk from Swedish Red Dairy cattle and identified milk proteins as potential markers for this undesirable trait. In this project we will increase the understanding of the …
