The role of liming in the crop rotation remains to be thoroughly investigated. Within two recent SLF projects, yield in sugar beet, barley and oil seed rape has been measured in the first rotation. In 2018, beets will be grown for a second time which gives us unique possibilities with the aim to study the long-term effects of liming on diseases, plant nutrition, soil structure and effects on phosphorus which has not been done before. The objectives of the project are to measure yield in beets in rotation 2 and in winter-wheat, barley and oil seed rape in rotation 1 in 13 GPS positioned trials. We will measure total amounts of P, phosphate-P etc. in drainage water from lysimeters and relate this to long term aggregate stability. Diseases are evaluated in the field as well as in bioassays. Effects of lime on free living nematodes are evaluated. Long term effects on plant nutrition in soil and in plants will also be studied.

A few years ago, media reported on a 7 year-old girl who was killed during a riding lesson. The accident evokes questions about children, horses and safety. Children are small and horses big, and the horse is a herd and prey animal whose behaviour is partly controlled by instincts. Today, many …

The overall aim of this project is to improve equine health and welfare by identifying causative mutations for inherited diseases to aid informed breeding of healthy horses. We will use a comparative genomics approach, combining whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and bioinformatics with state-of-the-art …

Soft tissues around the kneecap (patella) as a cause of equine lameness is an area yet to be scientifically investigated but that is often clinically treated with “alternative” methods without an established diagnosis. In human medicine, patellar tendinosis is a common verified diagnosis. …

Laminitis, an extremely painful disease of the equine foot, is most commonly caused by elevated insulin
concentrations in blood (hyperinsulinemia). Therefore, strategies to reduce hyperinsulinemia in horses are warranted.
Studies in obese children with insulin dysregulation and hyperinsulinemia …

The goal of the applied project is to shed light on overlooked aspects of the complex subject of horse welfare.
Because of the specific position stall owners have, they are especially suitable to contribute to our knowledge about
