The purpose of the project is to produce reliable emission factors for storage of poultry manure regarding methane and nitrous oxide emissions.
This project will focus on methane and nitrous oxide emissions from laying hens and the project is a supplement to an FoU project funded by the Swedish Board of Agriculture (referred to as FoU-SJV). In FoU-SJV, ammonia from poultry manure will be studied in a field study and in connection with this, this project also wants to measure methane and nitrous oxide emissions. The project will focus on differences in emissions when the chicken manure has different ts-content and if it is covered or not covered with a roof. In this project, we also want to use measured values from the experiments to calculate farm-specific values for the environmental and climate impact from laying hen manure storage. To get as farm-specific values as possible, 3 manure storages will be inventoried more deeply with a focus on the dynamics of the manure layer.

The rollback of insecticides exposes Swedish horticulture to a multitude of pests. Targeted and sustainable innovations are sorely needed. Here we target several pests of fruits, onion, cabbage, beans and salad and aim to develop 1) species-selective lures using a novel olfactomics platform, 2) use …

Fruit tree canker, caused by the fungus Neonectria ditissima, has become a threat for Swedish apple production. No efficient protective measures are available and no complete genetic resistance is known in apple. However, apple genotypes differ in the level of partial resistance which must be fully …

Healthy seeds are a prerequisite for sustainable food systems. The seed-borne plant disease, common bunt (CB) in wheat, caused by the fungi Tilletia tritici and T. laevis, is a major problem in agriculture. Efficient chemical seed treatments exist, but it is often difficult to keep up with autumn …

Colibacillosis is a common disease in poultry and includes both local and systemic infections. Increased knowledge is necessary for development of effective methods to prevent disease, such as improved management routines, modification of environment, and vaccine development. A major challenge facing agriculture is handling water excess and deficit exacerbated by climate change, while reducing eutrophication. Controlled drainage (CD) has the potential to address these issues and improve yield stability. Despite CDs clear benefits and state subsidies for CD installation, …

All horses grazing freely are at risk of parasitic diseases. Due to a growing problem with drug resistance in parasites, there is a need to improve the diagnostic methods. One important problem with today's situation is that one diagnostic procedure costs significantly more than one treatment, both …

Insulin dysregulation (ID), a condition with excessive hyperinsulinemia, is the most common cause of laminitis in the horse. Insulin dysregulation is a core component of equine metabolic syndrome. Management strategies for ID include feeding diets low in non-structural carbohydrates, but excessive …
