The proposed project aims to continue research for development of a vaccine protective against the pathogenic equine parasite Strongylus vulgaris. The ongoing work to establish appropriate in vitro models to screen the effect of candidate vaccine antigens/adjuvants will be continued. Cytokine screenings in cultures of equine PBMC and intestinal organoids will enable studies of both the systemic (PBMC) and local (organoids) response to parasite antigens. Our main antigen candidate, the recombinant protein SvSXP, will be evaluated together with a novel adjuvant, G3, first in our in vitro systems and thereafter in an immunisation trial in collaboration with experts on parasite immunology at the University of Kentucky. In search of additional vaccine antigens a bacteriophage cDNA library constructed from migrating S. vulgaris larvae will be utilized. Bacteriophage clones expressing promising larval antigens will be further propagated and tested for inclusion in the vaccine formula.

Achieving and maintaining a good stable climate with low ammonia levels is a major challenge for many poultry farmers. In addition to adversely affecting animal health, production and the working environment, high levels of ammonia in the stable can also lead to increased environmental impact. The …

The project aims are to use the information about cow's DNA profile to estimate the severity of fertility problems caused by specific genetic defects in the Swedish Red (SRB) and Holstein dairy breeds, and to estimate the economic impact of pregnancy losses caused by these genetic defects. Our goal …

Every year, about 500,000 claw trimmings are recorded in Swedish dairy cattle. The aim of claw trimming is to detect, treat and prevent painful claw lesions. However, the claw trimming in itself can be harmful and cause claw lesions if it is not done correctly. The aim of the project is to develop …

We work with the vision that it possible to reduce herbicide use and completely abandon glyphosate in reduced and no-till systems by promoting soil health and crop vigour through a diverse crop rotation, cover crops and mechanical weed control. In field experiments, we compare innovative glyphosate …

The conversion into a bio-based economy in Sweden requires a broad range of initiatives. One of the challenges is that additional sources of biomass will be needed. High yield potential, low conversion and production costs are critical success factors for new raw material. Salix is an energy crop …

Adding flowers to the cropping system that support beneficial insects is a promising option to achieve crop protection
in Swedish agriculture and horticulture. However, the wide-spread adoption of this approach has been hampered by
limited economic benefit and the risk of propagating pests and …
