The project aims to develop and evaluate molecular tests for the detection of gastrointestinal parasites in sheep and their resistance status to anthelmintics. The genetic markers will then be tested in two major sheep flocks to provide an evidence base for a monitoring program that, ultimately, will be compared with and eventually replace the currently used systems. The goal is to prevent the spread of resistant parasites to sheep flocks in a more efficient manner than is the case today.
Our hypothesis is that the morbidity of parasite-afflicted flocks is generally higher than in those which can still control the pathogens. A consequence of the lack of accurate parasite monitoring is that anthelmintics are used inappropriately. This inevitably leads to increased resistance, which in turn provides increased morbidity whereby production is adversely affected by, for example, reduced growth and higher lamb mortality.

The purpose is to examine haylage 'intolerance' in horses, which is expressed as diarrhoeic faeces in some horses when they are fed haylage (sometimes also when fed hay). A typical appearance is two-phase faeces - one solid and one liquid. It is not known why or how this condition appears, and it …

Many horses in training show motion asymmetries, but it is not known if these are due to pain caused by training; or due to individual biological variations. The aim of this project is to initiate three cohort studies where changes in motion symmetry will be monitored over time in riding horses and …

Resistance against antiparasitic drugs is now an increasing problem. Despite a lot of effortd put on preventive measures, such as egg counting and selective treatments, there is still a need for alternative and sustainable methods that do not result in rapid development of drug resistance. The …
