In this project we intend to study different methods to objectively monitor the germination of seeds. In the project we will both study cereal seeds and malting barley. The methods that we intend to compare are isothermal calorimetry and two image analysis systems. One of the systems is well established and uses the reflexion from 20 discrete wavelenghts, VideometerLab, while the other system is less sophisticated and is essentially an ordinary RGB-camera mounted on a stand and a software for taking pictures and registrating germination of seeds. All methods have been tried for these purposes and the aim of the project is to compare them and to adjust them for the respective task. There is a large potential both in making the current routine more efficient and cheap, but also in obtaining more information from the analyses.
