The main purpose of this interdisciplinary project is to generate renewable advanced materials from biomass through green technologies. Harvest2.0 focuses on valorizing furans extracted from agricultural by-products in combination with polymer technologies based on incorporation of the climate gas CO2. This green upcycling will yield valuable, advanced and “climate smart” materials. To reach these goals, the project integrates chemistry, biotechnology and material science within an international collaboration between academia (KTH/SciLifeLab), research institutes (RISE and VTT), raw material suppliers (Lantmännen) and Swedish basal industry represented by Perstorp. Harvest2.0 thus addresses the whole value chain in the emerging bioeconomy – from side-streams to renewable product. The project has a high potential to enhance the competitiveness of Swedish farmers by enabling green synthesis of novel sustainable polymers from biomass, which would reduce climate impact and emission of CO2.

Introduction of African swine fever to Sweden would be devastating for the national pig industry. Infected wild boar are considered the most likely route of introduction to Swedish domestic pigs and preventive measures are needed. Knowledge of how infection from wild boar to pigs can be prevented, …
