The purpose of this project is to clarify the source of infection and spread of Acrothecium carotae - the pathogen that causes a serious rot on stored carrots. We have to know the epidemiology of the pathogen in order to effectively control this serious disease. The project has four goals; to examine how the seed health affects the attack; to clarify if the carrot psyllid or other insects can act as possible vectors for the disease; to test the effect of various fungicides; and to develop a forecasting method to predict Acrothecium attacks in the autumn before storage of carrots. The project will be conducted in close cooperation with the Swedish carrot growers and the results will be directly useful for the growers.

The purpose of the project is to measure pressure distribution of cattle claws on solid and slatted floors with varying softness and slot openings. The aim is to produce recommendations for the design of floors for cattle that better meet animal welfare requirements. Floor tests will be made using …

In Sweden, thousands of hectares of agricultural land are not being actively used for agricultural production. Some
reasons are small and irregular-shaped fields, low soil fertility, distant fields, etc. These so-called marginal fields are
often non-profitable and they may be abandoned in the …

Development of resistance to anthelmintics is a threat to equine welfare. As with antibiotics, restrictive use with anthelmintics in order to retain the effect is essential. Current recommendation for deworming is targeted selective treatment to individuals shedding a certain amount of parasite …

A primary reason for unhealthy legs and claws are unsuitable floor properties in dairy houses,
which may result in slippery floors and slip injuries to cows and mastitis.
The hygiene of a floor surface and floor properties affect the cow claw/floor interaction and gait.
The aim is to determine an …

Mineral nutrients applied as seed dressing is an unexplored potential in Swedish crop production. Autumn and spring are often unfavorable for germination with cold and wet climate, especially in central Sweden. Under such climate conditions, seed dressing with mineral nutrients may improve …

The basis for sustainable dairy production is set in the newborn heifer calf. Earlier research has demonstrated that weight gain and health during early life influence the adult calf's production capacity, partly an effect of nutrition. Probably the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) …

Global livestock production must be intensified to meet the demand from a growing human population. However, this must not be at the expense of reduced animal health and deteriorated animal welfare. Infection with parasitic worms of ruminants is a major constraint on an efficient pasture-based …
