This project is about refining grass to meet a demand for proteins for, above all, organic poultry production and an expected increased demand for soy-free feed solutions for monogastric animals. Forage-based products also improve the economic preconditions to increase the proportion of grass in the crop rotation of farms without animals. Based on previous research in this area, two production systems will be developed that describe parallel development opportunities towards commercial production of protein from forage crops for feed. One system with a focus on producing and utilizing the protein locally on a smaller scale and one system with a focus on a large-scale plant that produces a protein concentrate. Techniques and economy are evaluated. Where knowledge is lacking, or to confirm results for Swedish conditions, practical trials are made. After completing the project, the goal is to have sufficient data produced to proceed with feasibility studies for production facilities

It is generally accepted that muscle enzyme activity (CK and AST) levels in plasma may increase in Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds after exercise and racing, indicating muscle damage. However, in one recent study on healthy Standardbred trotters fed a forage only diet muscle enzyme activity levels …

Structure liming on clayey soils (>15% clay) is one of the prioritized measures for mitigation of phosphorous losses to surrounding water. This project increases the knowledge about the effect of structure liming on phosphorous leaching losses on short and long term by investigating the timing and …

Oilseed rape (OSR) is a profitable and important crop in Swedish agriculture, especially winter OSR which is cultivated on approximately 100000 ha each year. Cultivation of OSR relies on large inputs of fertilizers and pesticides, which has economic costs as well as negative environmental impacts. …

Feeding protein supplements is advantageous because of a positive response in milk production. Rapeseed meal has given better production responses on a protein basis than soybean meal, but its supply is not sufficient to meet the requirements of dairy production. Red clover is one alternative to …
