This project aims to modify existing sensor systems for adapted nitrogen fertilization to consider water stress at
supplementary fertilization in cereals. Different approaches to consider sensor data and soil information will be tested
in field trials. Current commercial systems interpret water stress as nitrogen deficiency with excessive fertilization,
poor nitrogen efficiency and losses as a consequence. We know that water stress, and the ability to utilize nitrogen
fertilization, can vary greatly within a field. The project ranges from needs driven research to the potential
implementation in existing platforms for site specific fertilization and will be conducted in collaboration between soil
scientist and hydrologists at SLU and experts on decision support and infrastructures for site-specific fertilization at
Yara and Solvi. The goal is improved nitrogen utilization with higher yields and reduced environmental impact, as well
as better preparedness for drier summers.

During the last decade, neonatal porcine diarrhoea (NPD) has become an increased problem in Swedish herds. Clostridium (C.) perfringens type A (CpA) and C. difficile (Cd) have been highlighted as causes of NPD but their importance has also been questioned. We have previously demonstrated that CpA …

Mixed leys are among the most important crops in northern Sweden for the dairy production. Mapping the within and between fields variability of the biomass, nitrogen (N) uptake and potentially also forage quality (digestibility and neutral detergent fibre) would help farmers to optimise their …

Farmers today report a high workload, financial burden, frustration and stress linked to legislative and regulatory bureaucracy, which is a serious obstacle for development and growth in the sector. The proposed project aims to identify and quantify time requirements and costs of government-related …

In nature, piglets are exposed to a wide range of bacteria that promote a balanced (healthy) gut microbiota. On the farm, routine cleaning can limit exposure to beneficial bacteria leading to an unbalanced gut microbiota. An unbalanced gut microbiota increases the risk of health problems and alters …

Motor laterality, such as left or right-handedness, is a well-known asymmetric phenomenon in both humans and animals, incl. horses. Concurrently, lameness caused by orthopaedic injury is a common cause for asymmetry. In our study of riding horses in training, 73 % had motion asymmetries, warranting …

Flea beetles are serious insect pests in spring oilseed rape. After neonicotinoid seed treatments were restricted, no effective chemical control methods are currently available for flea beetle control. Crop protection has therefore become a serious limiting factor for growing the crop. In an …

Many horses in training show motion asymmetries, but it is not known if these are due to pain caused by training; or due to individual biological variations. The aim of this project is to initiate three cohort studies where changes in motion symmetry will be monitored over time in riding horses and …
