For sustainable future development, it is essential to recirculate plant nutrients from different parts of society,
especially sewage plants, back to arable land. The aim of the proposed project is to ensure that high-quality fertiliser
products attractive for agricultural use are produced from waste streams, including from Swedish wastewater
treatment plants. However, a certification system is needed for such products. The project will develop a test method
based on chemical analysis, incubation studies and plant studies in a greenhouse environment. Nutrient content,
environmental toxins, nutrient solubility and effects on soil pH are important aspects on which information should be
made available to farmers receiving the products. The project is a collaboration between RISE and SLU, in close
consultation with a reference group consisting of representatives from the whole chain: The Rural Economy and
Agricultural Societies (HS), Yara, sewage plants, Ragn-Sells, IVL and KRAV.

Zinkoxid (ZnO) in feed prevents post weaning diarrhoea (PWD) and mortality in weaned piglets but, for environmental reasons, ZnO will be banned in the EU in 2022 despite that there remain herds that are dependent on the use of ZnO (or antibiotics) at weaning.
By metagenomic analysis (sequencing …

The ability of milk to coagulate is crucial for cheese production. We have previously shown high occurrence of non-coagulating milk from Swedish Red Dairy cattle and identified milk proteins as potential markers for this undesirable trait. In this project we will increase the understanding of the …

This interdisciplinary project examines how Swedish dairy farmers, given different types of policy instruments, are affected by the ongoing structural transformation in the primary production. The study will improve our understanding about how the ongoing structural change affects profitability in …

Cereal production is limited by many different factors. Leaf diseases are often well known, while diseases on roots are more difficult to identify. Root diseases are often caused by oomycetes, fungus-like microorganisms that live for years in soil and on old root debris, parasitizing the roots of …

A sustainable use of phosphorus fertilizers has engaged a large number of researchers, especially how to measure
the soil content of available phosphorus. However, the development of results to useful methods for agriculture has
not been a priority. The recommendations are based on extraction with …
