Introduction of African swine fever to Sweden would be devastating for the national pig industry. Infected wild boar are considered the most likely route of introduction to Swedish domestic pigs and preventive measures are needed. Knowledge of how infection from wild boar to pigs can be prevented, however, is
lacking. We need to know more about the wildboar-domestic pig interface, about the nature of contacts between wild boars and pigs, how common they are, and how they could be avoided. The project will provide a basis for developing a strategy to prevent risky contacts by identifying the measures that are
most important and most resource efficient for prevention as well as management during an outbreak of African swine fever. Early detection of local spread will allow adaptation of the strategy when needed. The strategy will be useful also in the management of other infections that are spread from wild boar to pigs.

Humus is an important indicator of soil quality and soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration is a cost-effective measure to reduce the climatic impact of food production systems. The national soil-monitoring program (SMP) show an upward trend in SOC during the past 20 years, mostly attributed to an …

The ability of milk to coagulate is crucial for cheese production. We have previously shown high occurrence of non-coagulating milk from Swedish Red Dairy cattle and identified milk proteins as potential markers for this undesirable trait. In this project we will increase the understanding of the …
